Selecting the right garage door is an important choice to add curb appeal, energy effeciency, saftey, and overall quality to your home. Garage Door Repair NC is here to help install the perfect garage door to compliment your home in Mooresville, Huntersville, Winston Salem, NC and the surrounding areas.  Garage doors can usually be broken down into 3 categories:

Non-insulated Garage Doors (GOOD)

This garage door is usually a 25 gauge steel, (most models can be upgraded to 24 gauge for extra strength. Example Amarr Heritage 1000, and Haas 240 series).  The steel goes through several process to insure rust prevention, first it is galvanized, then several coats of epoxy primers, and then epoxy painted.   All garage door go though this process to give long maintenance-free life to the finish. This is a good economical choice when dressing up your house.

A non-insulated door is a good choice if the temperature in your garage doesn't matter. Cold winter and hot summer temperatures are absorbed by these type of doors. The operation of a non insulated door will be louder when opening and closing because of the single layer of metal and without insulation to dampen the noise of the door moving in the tracks. At Garage Door Services of North Carolina, we professionally install and service the following non-insulated garage door brands:

Amarr Stratford 1000 and Haas 250 Series

Vinyl-Back Insulated Garage Doors (BETTER)

This garage door is usually a 25 gauge steel, (most models can be upgraded to 24 gauge for extra strength. Example Amarr Heritage 2000, and Haas 240L series).  The steel goes through several process to insure rust prevention, first it is galvanized, then several coats of epoxy primers, and then epoxy painted.   All garage door go though this process to give long maintenance-free life to the finish. This is a good choice when you want to dress up your house and make it more comfortable in the garage. Vinyl-back insulated doors are a better selection when choosing a door style for your home in Huntersville, Mooresville or Winston Salem, NC.

This door will be quieter than the non insulated model thanks to the vinyl back styrofoam (polystyrene) panels.  The R Value is usually around 6.8 to 7.0, which will make a noticeable difference on keeping heat out in the summer and cold out of the garage in the winter. The strength of the vinyl back insulated door is the same a the non-insulated models described above.

Amarr Stratford 2000 and Haas 250L Series

Steel Back Insulated Garage Doors (BEST)

A steel back insulated door is your best choice if you are looking for a strong door that will last.  The usually have steel layers (the outside layer and a layer on the inside of the door) that is usually 26 gauge to 28 gauge.  Just because it is thinner steel than the doors listed above doesn't make them weaker.  It is like comparing a 3/4'' pine board to a  3/4'' piece of plywood, then plywood is much stronger.  The steel goes through several process to insure rust prevention, first it is galvanized, then several coats of epoxy primers, and then epoxy painted.   All garage door go though this process to give long maintenance -free life to the finish.  This will be good choice if you are looking for a great looking door that is really quiet, strong, and energy smart. We strongly recommend steel-back insulated garage doors to all Mooresville, Huntersville or Winston Salem, NC residents.

There are a lot differences from one  Steel Back Insulated garage door to another.

These doors vary in the thickness (1 3/8'' to 2'')to help with increasing the R Value, but the biggest factor affecting R Value and the strength of the door is, what is it insulated with.

Most companies use polystyrene (styrofoam) this will give you an R Value of around 6.5 to 7.6.

Some examples are the:

Amarr Stratford 3000 and Heritage 3000

Some manufactures offer models that are insulated with Polyurethane, this  basically doubles your R Value and drastically increases the strength of the door.  The polyurethane is sprayed in and glues the front layer of steel with the back layer of steel.  Opening and closing will be extremely quiet because the sections will not be flexing and how everything is glued together with the polyurethane insulation.  These doors are also less likely to dent and have a very solid sound when you hit the panel, instead of a more hollow sound. The R Values range from 12.4 to 17.66 depending on the thickness of the door and the density of the polyureathane used.  The great thing about polyurethane insulated doors are the price is pretty close to the same as the steel back doors insulated with syrofoam.

Some examaples are:

Haas 600 series (13.45 R Value), 700 series (16.18 R Value), and 2000 series (17.66 R Value)

Carriage House Style Amarr Classica 3000 and Haas American Traditions
